Under the sea Treasures

Well, I'm having a break from painting mini paintings for my upcoming Open Day at the end of the month. The other night I was just splashing around with three colour pigments and salt on a scrap of paper I had left over from the full page I had. I let it dry overnight and was surprised the next morning to see how it had dried. I'm sorry that I didn't take photos of the different stages I painted - as you would have been amazed at what it looked like before I added structure to it. Not knowing what I was going to do with this sheet of paper, I put it away.

Finally, I found shapes that looked like a reef in a way..... fishes eyes and coral shapes appeared out of nowhere. So I set about creating an underwater theme using all the negative shapes to make it look a bit realistic I thoroughly enjoyed painting this although it took me ages to capture the scene, making sure that it didn't end up looking like I had stuck the subjects on paper. I tend to work quickly and like to finish paintings within a few hours normally, but I found this particularly therapeutic and didn't want it to finish!

Love to hear what you think, also how many little creatures can you find?

I am astounded by this! I think it has to be one of the most wonderful paintings I have seen! I absolutely love scuba-diving and all of those beautiful creatures we see whilst doing it and this painting takes me right back under the Indian Ocean! I would LOVE to have this hanging on my wall! If it were mine it would be hanging where it couldn't possibly be missed! I could ramble on for ages! Love, love, LOVE it!!!

So glad you like this Sandra..... I love diving too which I think helped with the ideas of how things look under that lovely ocean. I can just picture the scene if you were to pop in to my home and see this painting..... It would no longer be in my possession!!!! Right? :)

Alison.. thanks for popping in with encouraging words. The next morning I had thoughts of you when studying my first wash. I'm sure you do the same with your lovely paintings before adding detail.

Such a lovely experiment, Debbie! And I am sure you were totally relaxed, swimming around in watercolour and searching for treasures and fish!

This is awesome, Debbie. I love the way the large fish blends into the background and looks like he is coming right out at you. You did an amazing job. I wish you had posted progression pics too.

I love this! I won't count all the little sea creatures because every blossom has become an anemone or a coral or...love the main fish and others peeking out here and there. Just gorgeous! I think you should do another :)

Marie, yes, I did have so much fun... didn't want to stop. Thank you for your lovely reply.

Pat... thank you for your comment, that was the initial idea!

I can kick myself Carol, it was such an experiment of discoveries! Thanks for your kind words.

Rhonda, thank you. I had to force myself to stop...... I could have carried on and made all the salt blooms coral, but that would have been so distracting!!

I love diving and I love painting, how could I not loooove your painting? I can well understand why you didn't want it to end! I love it when paintings have a mind of their own and develop in their own way; we just follow and obey, and very often beautiful paintings appear!

Thank you Jane.... I enjoyed that bit about the painting.....LOOKING! :)

Thanks Cathy......I love being underwater too.... I always feel like a visitor or alien there. I'd like to frame this piece as it's just so reminiscent of the life underwater!
